Currently, our beehive and agricultural cooperative in Gazini, northern KwaZulu Natal province, is busy clearing and tilling their farm in preparation for planting of a new crop. In addition, the cooperative recently added 8 additional members to its structure, in order to beef up the necessary manpower for both the agricultural and beekeeping aspects of their project. Once they have cleared the land, we will also look into setting up the beehive fencing around their agricultural plot in order to deter elephants from raiding their agricultural produce. The cooperative’s project is a classic example of how ERP works within communities where human -elephant conflict exists, as it seeks to create and promote a symbiotic co-existence between elephants and humans in communities living adjacent to nature reserves.
