ERP recently enjoyed a breakthrough on the elephant conservation front, in a significant land deal based on a 45-year lease with the Barakalogadi Community.
ERP prevailed in 2 court applications needed to overcome legal obstacles and resistance to the incorporation of the community-owned land into the greater Madikwe reserve, the 5th-largest conservation area in South Africa, and home to an elephant population that is under threat of culling due to land restrictions.
This ERP reserve expansion program will provide much-needed relief to the Madikwe elephant population through range expansion and also through access to the Molatedi Dam, which is on ERP’s leased land. The video was made earlier this year, during the eventually-successful battle to secure relief through the courts.
