Even though schools had to be closed earlier due to the national corona virus outbreak, the iLAB funded ICT centre at Waterberg Welfare Society in Vaalwater managed to cover some ground before the nationwide lockdown came into effect. The centre hosted Grade 12 learners from local schools, who managed to complete online applications to various universities of their choice. Each student was able to apply to atleast three different univeristies, an opportunity which, if not for the centre, they may not have been able to get because most of them do not have connectivity and access to computers at home. In addiition, a team from MICT SETA conducted an assessment to re- evaluate the ICT Centre in order to renew the current accreditation, due to expire in July 2020. This re-assessment will enable the centre to continue providing nationally accredited course materials to the Vaalwater community.
