Sekelekani Cooperative recently underwent further training on beehive construction, as they started with the rehabilitation of the existing beehive fence. The fence, erected over 2 years ago, still has an occupancy of 100% in almost all of the existing hives, and has successfully deterred elephant crossings, thereby achieving its main purpose of addressing the human-elephant conflict in Gazini. The cooperative also recently recruited new members, thereby giving these members an opportunity to earn an income through beekeeping and conventional agriculture. This project is a classic ERP intervention, addressing both conservation and community development within communities where ERP has a footprint.
